Episode 5

I think Perry is trying to tell me I need to "step on it" when it comes to my Christmas decorations!  He found our undecorated mantle and made that his perch for the day.

Austyn has no problems (ever) getting out of bed in the morning, but now that Perry is around, it is even easier!  She cannot wait to see where he is each morning.

Gannon, on the other hand, would much rather sleep.  He saw him, but was rather unimpressed this morning.  He really didn't want to get out of bed.

Happy "Hump Day" everyone!  We are halfway through another week!

Midnight Snack

I guess Perry forgot to have a snack before leaving the North Pole last night.  When he arrived at our house, sometime in the wee hours of the morning, he decided he was hungry.  I guess it is hard work flying to and from the North Pole every night ;)

Now, I surely don't mind if Perry has a snack, but.....

... I do wish he could clean his own messes, ha!

Again, Austyn was the first out of bed and ran to see where Perry was.  Imagine her shock when she saw his mess!

"Mommy!  Perry is eating all our 'smarshmallows'!"
I told her that she could have the ones he dropped, and that made it all okay.

Gannon, on the other hand, did not want to get out of bed this morning.
Hey, let's be fair--neither did I!

Getting him excited about Perry was a little more difficult.

...or so he would like you to believe...

When he thought I was no longer looking, he started "cleaning up" all the marshmallows!

Little turkey!

"Mommy, why is Perry stealing all our 'smarshmellows'?"
Perry isn't stealing our marshmallows, he is just having a snack.
"Oh.  Why is he so hungry?"
He must have forgotten to have one before he left the North Pole.
"Well, he can have our snacks, but he shouldn't just throw them all over the place."
You're right Gannon.  It's a good thing you like marshmallows and you can help clean them up!
"YEP!!"

:)

Thanks for checking out Episode 4 of Perry-- Elf on the Shelf!

"I Want to Kiss Perry!"

Although Perry hasn't gotten into any mischief, yet, today he is one step closer!

Austyn was the first out of bed (as usual) so she was the first to spot Perry in his new place.

Yesterday, she told me that she was very sad about Perry.  When I asked her why, she said it was because she wanted to kiss him.  I reminded her of the rule:

No one is allowed to touch Perry, or he will lose his magic.

Her response:
"I know, Mommy.  I want him to lose his magic.  I don't ever want him to fly away from us.  I want him to stay with us forever."

My sweet girl :)

****

Gannon was running so fast, and was so excited, I barely got a photo of him this morning.

"Oh my gosh!  Doesn't he know he is not supposed to hang on the lights?!?  How did he even get up there?"
If G thinks that is crazy...Oh, boy!  He is going to go crazy when he sees what is coming!

Sunday, November 27, 2011

Well, we must not have traumatized Perry to much on his first day because he returned for more!

When Gannon woke up this morning, he ran straight to the kitchen to see if Perry was still there, which he wasn't.

The search was on...

Can you feel the excitement??

I love waking up to these faces :)

Perry the Elf

We are starting a new Christmas tradition at our house this year.  It is called Elf on the Shelf.

Here is the story:

"At holiday time
Santa sends me to you.
I watch and report on all that you do.
My job's an assignment
from Santa himself.
I am his helper,
a friendly scout elf."

"The first time I come to the place you call home
you quickly must give me a name of my own.
Once you are finished my mission can start."

After much deliberation, our elf was given the name Perry.

This morning, Perry arrived at our house for the first time.  Austyn was so excited when she came to the table for breakfast and realized he was here!

Gannon couldn't wait to read the book and start the search for Perry.

"Each night while you're sleeping
to Santa I'll fly
to the North Pole
right through the dark sky.
Of course Christmas magic
helps me to be quick.
I laugh with my friends
and report to Saint Nick."

"I tell him if you have been good or been bad.
The news of the day makes him happy or sad.
A push or a shove I'll report to 'the Boss,'
but small acts of kindness will not be a loss."

"I'll be back at your home before you awake,
and then you must find the new spot I will take.
You'll jump out of ed and come running to see:
who'll be the first to spy little old me?"

It took a little bit of searching, but Gannon finally spotted Perry...

Austyn was right behind him :)

"There's only one rule that you have to follow
so I will come back and be here tomorrow:
Please do not touch me.  My magic might go,
and Santa won't hear all I've seen or I know.
I won't get to tell him that you've said your prayers,
or helped to bake cookies,
or cleaned off the stairs.
How will he know how good you have been?
He might start to think you forgot about him.
I can't speak to you, so says Santa Claus.
All of us elves have to follow his laws.
I'll listen to you.  Tell me your wishes.
Would you like a game or some tiny toy dishes?
The gleam in my eye and my bright little smile
shows you I'm listening and noting your file.
The final decision with Santa now rests.
What do you think?
Will you get your request?
The night before Christmas my job's at an end.
The rest of the year with Santa I'll spend. So blow me a kiss and bid me farewell.
I'll fly away when I hear Santa's bell.
Of course, I will miss you,
but wait 'til next year.
When the holidays come I'll again reappear."

Bryan and I are very excited about this new tradition for our kids.  We have some big plans for Perry, so stay tuned!

22 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: Twenty-two weeks

Size of baby: Baby M is 11 inches inches long and weighs in right at a pound-- the size of a spaghetti squash.

Movement: Baby M kicks and wiggles at fairly predictable times of the day, now. I can feel a few thumps in the morning when I wake up, but not much. Baby M is most active between 10 and 2--thump-thump-kick-wiggle-squirm. I can also feel little kicks when I lay down to go to bed, but not much.
-At some point in the near future, I am supposed to start doing "kick counts". I should be able to feel Baby M move at least ten times during any given hour.

-Baby M isn't nearly as active as Gannon was. I never had to count kicks with him. He moved constantly. I would reach ten within the first 10-15 minutes any time I stopped to count.

-Austyn, on the other hand, was super laid back. She moved so little that towards the pregnancy, she started to worry Mommy and the doctors. She even had to be observed a few times.
-This little Peanut seems to be taking more after big sister than big brother in this department.

Heartbeat: 168--woah!  Jumped back up this week!

Fetal Development:

"At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and right at 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily." -babycenter.com

"Now that he's got more developed eyes and lips, he's looking even more like a newborn.  He's sleeping in cycles -- about 12 to 14 hours per day (hint: they're probably those times you're not feeling any kicks!)." -thebump.com

Cravings: Crazy cravings!  I eat all.the.time!  And it is still just about all junk.  Ice cream, Oreos, chips... I have been eating strawberries, but I dipped them in chocolate first ;)

Total Weight Gain/Loss: +4 pounds
MaternityClothes: I am still wearing mostly regular clothes, although I have no clue how.  I have two pairs of maternity jeans--one, I hate..and the other falls off.  I am mostly wearing regular shirts that are longer in length--that way they are long enough to cover this belly!
**I am carrying this baby high, which may be the reason I can still button my regular jeans.  Apparently, Austyn was low...I could no longer force the button on my jeans together for her pregnancy at only nine weeks!

Gender: We are not going to find out!
Gut feeling: I really do still feel like it is a boy. But others disagree:

Bryan says, "That baby's a girl!"

Austyn cracks me up when she talks about this baby.  A few days ago, she informed me that there were two babies in my belly.  Their names are Mia and Molly.
--I don't know where she comes up with this stuff!

So, the story goes that when you are pregnant, you can determine the baby's sex by holding another baby:
-if the two babies are opposite sexes, they are supposed to be at peace with each other.
-if they are the same sex, your baby is supposed to "fight" with the baby you are holding.

Well, at Gannon's birthday party, I held two precious little angels, both boys.  I never felt even a single movement the whole time!  Hmmmmm...??

Sleep: Sleep has actually gotten better...for the moment :)

What I miss: Nothing really... I am falling into the "I love everything about my pregnancy" stage :)

Symptoms:
-Morning sickness is still here, but she only visits in the morning. I know better than to try to eat breakfast...I just make up for it the rest of the day!
-Clumsy!! Boy, am I clumsy! I drop everything, I trip over my own feet, and I knock over any glass in my reach. Sheesh! I ran into a tent pole at Academy the other night, and at Subway, I turned to leave the register and ran into the post that makes the line...Oy. I was like this with Gannon, too, but had no sense of recovery. This time, I am able to save at least most of my spills.
-Vivid dreams! I know I have talked about these before, so I won't go into detail about all of them, just let me tell you...Wooo-eeee, there have been some doozies! Ha!
-Allergies! Ick! It is pretty much confined to a nagging cough now, so that's good!

Leg cramps! Yuck :(

-Back/hip pain! This has actually gotten much better since I have been seeing the chiropractor. It isn't gone...but it is much better! My last appointment went great, and I am even able to stretch out my visits from two to three weeks!

Five Whole Years

Five years ago on this day...

God gave me the most beautiful gift I could ever imagine.

Five years ago on this day, He made me a Mommy.  On November 20, 2006 at 6:37 pm, Bryan and I welcomed the most beautiful baby boy into the world.  He made our hearts whole.

Four years ago on this day, that sweet little man blew out his first birthday candle.  I can't believe how wonderful that first year was.

Three years ago on this day...

...our tractor-riding, dirt-loving, all-boy
celebrated two whole years with us!

Two years ago, on this day....

Chief Gannon sounded the alarms to let everyone know he was another year older!

One year ago....

...My handsome little hunter added a fourth candle to his birthday cake.

Today,

...we celebrate FIVE "super" years with our favorite little super hero.  These five years have flown faster than I could have imagined, and I know the years to come will go just as quickly.  All I can do is cherish each and every moment I have with this special little boy.

Mommy loves you, Gannon-Banannon!!

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: Twenty-one weeks

Size of baby: Baby M is 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrotand weighs in at 12.7 ounces (about 3/4 of a pound!).

-This little Peanut seems to be taking more after big sister than big brother in this department.

Heartbeat: 156

Fetal Development:

Okay, so you may notice that this is out of order...I had to move it here to preface the weight gain ;)
Cravings: So, here is where I start gaining weight!  Cravings are hitting at full-force.  This week, I want cold and sweet all. the. time!  Juice, Popsicles, ice cream, ice cream bars, etc....For work, I bought a box of Moo Bars, a box of Crunch Bars, and a box of Juice bars...I am averaging 3-4 bars/day.  Eeeek!  A craving for sopapilla cheesecake hit the other night, and I had to bake one of those, too!
-Which reminds me-- When I was pregnant for Gannon, I craved green Popsicles--you know, the Blue Bell Bullets (I think?).  I had forgotten all about that craving until it hit me Monday at school.  I NEED A GREEN POPSICLE!!  Ha!

Total Weight Gain/Loss: +3

MaternityClothes: I am still wearing mostly regular clothes, although I have no clue how.  Maternity clothes are still to big, so I am just making do for now. I do have two pairs of maternity jeans that I wear on occasion, but that's it.

Gender: We are not going to find out!
Gut feeling: I really do still feel like it is a boy. But others disagree:

Bryan says, "That baby's a girl!"

So you may remember the talk we had with both the kiddos about how they may not get the baby they "want", but we will love our new baby no matter what.  At this point, Gannon wanted a boy, and Austyn wanted a girl.
Well now, Austyn will only refer to her baby as Parker.  Mia has been forgotten.  Now, we are having to have that talk with her again, only backwards...."If Parker happens to be a Mia, we will still love her."  To which she responds, "NO!  My baby is PARKER.  Not Mia.  My Parker-Baby!"
Sheesh....

Sleep: Sleep has actually gotten better...for the moment :)

What I miss:  Nothing really... I am falling into the "I love everything about my pregnancy" stage :)

Aversions: None...I think I may delete this section.

Symptoms:
-Morning sickness is still here, but she only visits in the morning.  I know better than to try to eat breakfast...I just make up for it the rest of the day!
-Clumsy!! Boy, am I clumsy! I drop everything, I trip over my own feet, and I knock over any glass in my reach. Sheesh! Leg cramps! Yuck :(

-Back/hip pain!  This has actually gotten much better since I have been seeing the chiropractor.  It isn't gone...but it is much better!  My next appointment isn't for another week, so no new updates for now.

"Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. You may soon feel like she's practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to her activity as you get to know her better. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now, and if you're having a girl, her vagina has begun to form as well."
-babycenter.com

"As her digestive system preps for the outside world, she's manufacturing meconium -- the tarry black substance you'll find in her first dirty diaper (ew)!  If it's a girl, she's already got a lifetime's supply of eggs in her womb -- about six million of them!  -thebump.com

F-I-V-E

November 20, one of my favorite days of the year, is quickly approaching.  Much faster than I would like, ha!  On November 20, my baby boy will be F-I-V-E years old!  FIVE!!  Where have five years gone??  While I feel like I have always known him, and that he has always been a part of me, I still can't believe it has been almost five years since the first time I laid eyes on his perfect little face.

We aren't finished, but we snapped a few photos to commemorate this time in his life with some of his favorite things.

Hope you enjoyed these photos of my little super hero!  More to come, soon.

20 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along:  Twenty weeks--I am definitely turning into a roly poly!  I have to rock back and forth or roll to get off the couch, ha!

Size of baby: Baby M is 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana — and weighs in at about 10.5 ounces.
** babies are measured from the crown (or top) of the head to the rump (or bottom) until about 20 weeks. This is because a baby's legs are curled up against his torso during the first half of pregnancy and very hard to measure.
Movement: Thump, thump, kick, wiggle! All. Day. Long! I think it might be because I am still pretending to fit into non-maternity jeans, ha!

I can even feel kicking when I lay down at night, now.  This peanut is not nearly as active as my little G-Man was, but it definitely let's me know that it's there!

Heartbeat: 156

Fetal Development:

"She's got working taste buds, and she's gulping down several ounces of amniotic fluid each day -- that's significantly more than before."
-thebump.com

"He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery)."
-babycenter.com

Total Weight Gain/Loss: -0-
MaternityClothes: I am still wearing mostly regular clothes.

Sleep: Sleep has actually gotten better...for the moment :)

What I miss:  Being able to get off the couch like a normal person, ha!
Cravings: There is still nothing specific like there was with the first two.  I mean, I will get a craving now and then, and when I do--I must have that food PRONTO!-- but it isn't like with the first two pregnancies.  They each held true to a specific craving throughout the entire pregnancy:
Gannon = steaks
Austyn = chocolate chip cookies
Aversions: I cannot stand the smell of meat cooking, but I have no problem eating it. Does this count as an aversion?
Symptoms:
-I still can't eat breakfast, because I am too sick in the morning. But it is pretty much limited to the mornings, now! Yay!
Ha!
-Allergies! Ick! sneezing, coughing, runny and stuffy nose, sore throat...Yep, pretty much the works.
--Well, the allergies have turned into a full-blown cold, yuck!

Leg cramps!  Yuck :(

-Back/hip pain! Ouch! My hips are killing me. The pain is especially bad in my left hip, and even shoots down my leg at times. My left leg is also weak most of the time. Update: Bryan and I are really loving our chiropractor!  I have scaled back to two week visits, and if all goes well at the next one, we will cut to once a month.  Bryan has also scaled back, but to weekly visits.

Speaking of the chiropractor, I a blog I read regularly, The Poop Whisperer, posted not too long ago about the benefits of bringing your babies to the chiropractor, specifically, ear babies.  Now, I know my babies are not ear babies, and never have been, but it still sparked my interest.  I have been searching for articles on these benefits, and what all chiropractors are able to do for children.  I have also been talking to friends who I know take their children.  I have come to the conclusion, that chiropractors are just plain amazing!  There are so many things they can help with from ear infections, to teething and drooling, to bed wetting!

Well, I don't if you are aware, but Gannon will be five in nine days (wait is that right??  NINE days??), and he still wears a pull-up at night.  Now, I know this is totally normal, and I should not worry, which I am not.  But, if I can help him with something this easy, hey, why not??
So I talked to the chiropractor about it, and he was very happy to help us.  He said he would need to see him about three times before we would notice any results, and that he wouldn't charge us anything for Gannon's treatments!

So Gannon was scheduled to come to my next appointment with me, which was Wednesday.  Well, wouldn't you know, that from the time I talked with the chiro about him and the day of the appointment, he woke up dry!  Every. Single. Day!  Way to go, Gannon!!  So we are going to play the next couple of weeks by ear and see how he does :)

19 Weeks--I'm Calling Halfway!

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along:  Nineteen weeks--I am going to call halfway here, since neither of my first pregnancies went to forty weeks (Gannon was 38, and Austyn was 36).

Size of baby: Baby M is about 6 inches long (about the size of a mango or a large heirloom tomato) and weighs in at about 8.5 ounces.

October 31--Halloween--18wks 3 days--Bryan felt the baby move!  Yippee!  I was so excited about this, and to my surprise, I think he was too!

Heartbeat: 152

Fetal Development:

"She is developing a protective coating over her skin, called vernix caseosa. It's greasy and white and you may see some of it at her birth.  She is also working on her five senses. Nerve cells for her sense of taste, hearing, sight and smell are developing in her brain." -thebump.com

"Your baby's sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.
Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid." -babycenter.com

Total Weight Gain/Loss: 0!! Yay, I finally broke even:)
MaternityClothes: I am still wearing mostly regular clothes.

While Austyn still wants a girl, and Gannon still wants a boy, we have had the conversation many times about what might happen if Mia turns out to be Parker, or if Parker turns out to be Mia.  They have both agreed they will love their new baby no matter what.  Cross your fingers with me that this still rings true in March ;)
Sleep: Sleep has been awful this week.  I have a terrible cold, and it keeps me up during the night.

What I miss: Sleep!!
Cravings: The junkie cravings are not really going away, but they are losing out more to better foods.  I made my first broccoli bread the other day (thanks, Rachelle!), and it was delish!!  My cravings have gotten sweeter lately, but maybe it is just because Halloween candy is ev.ery.where!
Aversions: I cannot stand the smell of meat cooking, but I have no problem eating it. Does this count as an aversion?
Symptoms:
-I still can't eat breakfast, because I am too sick in the morning. But it is pretty much limited to the mornings, now! Yay!
-Clumsy!! Boy, am I clumsy! I drop everything, I trip over my own feet, and I knock over any glass in my reach. Sheesh! -Vivid dreams! I know I have talked about these before, so I won't go into detail about all of them, just let me tell you...Wooo-eeee, there have been some doozies! Ha!
-Allergies! Ick! sneezing, coughing, runny and stuffy nose, sore throat...Yep, pretty much the works.
--Well, the allergies have turned into a full-blown cold, yuck!
-Back/hip pain! Ouch! My hips are killing me. The pain is especially bad in my left hip, and even shoots down my leg at times.  My left leg is also weak most of the time.  Update: I have found a chiropractor here (thank goodness!), and he is great.  I saw him for the first time on Tuesday, and I will go back again Friday.  And!!  I even got Bryan to come with me!!!  The Doc said he has a lot of work to do there, ha!  Hopefully, he will start feeling better, now, and get more active again.  I know how much he hates being down.

Trick-or-Treat 2011

This is our first Halloween in our new house.  We just missed it last year (we moved in November 19).  We had heard that our neighborhood really gets in to Halloween for all the kids.  We even heard that other neighborhoods come here to celebrate.  As Halloween approached, our anticipation grew.  Almost every house out out great decorations, and we just knew the hype had to be true.  On Halloween, the decorations grew... Some people were bringing out haunted house decorations for their driveways and garages, while others were bringing out barbecue pits and tables to celebrate.  I am not sure who was more excited: the kids, or me!!

When I picked the kids up from school, they were begging for some of the candy we bought for the trick-or-treaters.  I told them they could each have one piece when we got home.  They were so excited!

She said, "Mommy!  This was my favorite candy when I was a little girl!"
Turkey :)

Cheeseball!

After we painted our pumpkins, Gannon wanted to put them on the front porch.  Immediately.  He didn't understand, or didn't care, that they were wet and we could not move them, yet.  Here is his face when he got home from school and realized that I had moved them to the porch for him.

I tried to get some pictures of them actually trick-or treating, but they were too fast, and it was just too dark.  So these indoor shots of my little super heroes will have to suffice.

INTRODUCING:

The wonderful, the magnificent, the brave, and the super cute:

Super-Austyn and Super-Gannon!!!

"Super-Girl, to the rescue!!"
We heard this chant all. night. long!  And it never got old!

And here is Gannon "getting told".  I don't remember exactly what was said, but this face sure does tell you what Miss Austyn thought about it!

Here are the only outdoor shots I got.  The next-door-neighbors had this cute little set-up in their driveway, and Gannon ran over there before I even got the stroller out of the garage, ha!

And here, Super-Girl is off to rescue Mrs. Cynthia and "Mr. Jimmy-Jim", as she calls him, ha!

I know, I know...Terrible.  That's why I put the camera away.

I excitedly told Bryan that Mrs. Cynthia bought the kids Nightmare on Elm St for Halloween.

His response:  "Um, don't you think that is a tad inappropriate?!"

I told him no.  I mean isn't it clay-mation, or cartoon-ish, or something like that??

Again, his response:  "Um, no.  It's Freddy Krueger!"

Me:  Ooops.  Well, then I got the title wrong.

She bought them Nightmare Before Christmas.  :)

Okay, so maybe that's not hilarious, but we sure got a good laugh!

After a long night of Trick-or-Treating, we arrived back home to show off our loot.  And boy, did we have some!!

Then, we got into our jammies and handed out candy to the kids who were still out Trick-or-Treating.  I think they had almost as much fun handing out the candy as they did knocking on doors for it!

My silly skeletons!

Happy Halloween from our family to yours!  We hope you had as much fun as we did!
